Review: Chelsea v Norwich

Chelsea were 7 points off 2nd placed Manchester City and 11 points behind league leaders Manchester United. Chelsea went into the game vs Norwich City very confident after trashing Aston Villa 8-0. For the first 35 minutes the game was a little bit cagey and Chelsea and Norwich both had opportunities to go in front. In the 38th minute, after some steady build up play, the ball fell to Mata's left foot and curled a sublime shot past the Norwich goalkeeper. The game finished 1-0 for Chelsea at Carrow road. Norwich has previously, at home, beaten the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal. This was a tough game for Chelsea. The 2nd half was a very possession based second half as Chelsea had 64%  possession and created some decent chances. I thought that Chelsea should won by a big margin. After showing their attacking capability vs Aston Villa they should have at least won by more than 2 goals. Norwich are tough to beat at home but with the talent at their disposal the should have done better. Overall the result is very good because they come away with 3 points and moved closer towards second place because Manchester City lost 1-0 to Sunderland. Manchester United came back against Newcastle to win 4-3. Now Chelsea are only 4 points behind Man City and still 11 points behind Man U.

Lampard and Co. shown EXIT door at Chelsea!

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has been told to find a new club in January. Lampard’s contract runs out this summer. Chelsea has a policy of offering only one-year contract extensions to players above the age of 30. Lampard, aged 34, recently made his 500th appearance for the club and scored his 130th goal for the club against Aston Villa. Lampard is now Chelsea’s top scorer with 130 goals for the London club. He over took Bobby Tambling’s record of 129 goals. Lamps scored a 25 yard shot against Aston Villa keeper, Brad Guzan. Lampard was one of seven scorers in Chelsea’s thumping of Aston Villa. Chelsea has told Lampard that he can find a new club from January 1st and on. Lampard was told his Chelsea career was over before his game against Aston Villa. An Insider has told that “Frank is distraught”. Lampard has been one of Chelsea’s most loyal player and has won 4 F.A Cups, 3 League Cups, 3 Barclays Premier League Titles and one Champions League with the London based club. It is rumored that L.A Galaxy wants Lampard as Beckham’s replacement. Lampard’s uncle, Harry Redknapp, also wants to recruit him to QPR.  Ashley Cole’s contract also runs out this summer and he looks set to join French giants P.S.G in the summer for free. Chelsea has offered him a one year deal with reduced wages but he has rejected the offer. Ashley Cole has been rated as the world’s best left-back by Redknapp. John Terry will not be offered a new deal by Chelsea’s billionare owner, Roman Abramovich, because Chelsea’s skipper did not back Chelsea ex-boss Andre Villas-Boas. His contract runs until the end of next season. Chelsea Legend Drogba, left last summer after being offered an unattractive one-year deal. He had won them the Champions League with an 89th minute header against Bayern Munich and netting the winning penalty in the Champions League final.
I think this is a bit harsh because Lampard and Terry are legends at the club. Abramovich is being really harsh with the legends at the club. Manchester United are keeping their veterans, Ryan Giggs, aged 38 and Paul Scholes, aged 37. Manchester United are keeping their old and experienced players. I understand that Abramovich is trying to reduce the average age at the club. It is a bit ruthless to expel the veterans.
